The Speedmaster is one of OMEGA’s most iconic timepieces, having been a part of all six lunar missions. Celebrating that history, this “Blue Side of the Moon” model takes its name from the colour of the dark blue sky.
The 44.25 mm chronograph features a blue ceramic case complemented by a blue ceramic bezel ring with an OMEGA Ceragold™ tachymeter scale. It is presented on a blue leather strap with a blue ceramic and ceramised titanium foldover clasp.
Most vividly, the dial is blue aventurine glass and includes 18K Sedna™ gold indexes and hands as well as a date hand with red tip. At 6 o’clock is the accurate Moonphase indication, which features a blue enamel aventurine glass Moonphase disc (patent pending) with near and far sides of the moon in Sedna™ gold.
Powering the timepiece is the OMEGA Master Chronometer Calibre 9904, certified at the industry’s highest standard by the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS).
Calibre Omega 9904: Self-winding chronograph with column wheel and Co-Axial escapement. Certified Master Chronometer, approved by METAS, resistant to magnetic fields reaching 15,000 gauss. Silicon balance-spring, 2 barrels mounted in series. Central hour, minute and chronograph seconds hands, small seconds hand, date indication by hand, 12-hour and 60-minute recorders and moonphase indication. Rhodium plated finish with Geneva waves in arabesque.
FEATURES
Anti-magnetic: The movement is unaffected by exposure to strong magnetic fields, even those greater than 1.5 tesla (15,000 gauss).
Automatic watch: A self-winding watch or automatic watch uses a mechanical movement whose main spring is wound automatically by the natural motion of the wearer’s arm.
Ceramic watch: A casebody created from a single block of pressed ceramic, which is first heated in an oven and then three-dimensionally machined. OMEGA’s ceramic watch cases are extremely scratch-resistant and shock-resistant.
Chronograph: The chronograph function is a mechanism for measuring time intervals. A chronograph watch can therefore be used to time events while displaying the time like any traditional watch.
Chronometer: Label given to a watch which has undergone precision tests and received a certificate from an official body (COSC).
Master Chronometer Certified: Guaranteeing the Swiss industry’s highest standard of precision, performance and magnetic-resistance, as set by the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS).
Moonphase: A moonphase watch uses a function which tracks the phases of the moon. One lunar cycle is 29 days, 12 hours, 44 minutes and 2.8 seconds and includes four phases: new moon, first quarter, full moon, last quarter.
Sedna Gold™: Sedna Gold™ is an 18K rose gold alloy, fusing pure gold with copper and palladium, in order to guarantee that your gold watch has long lasting lustre.
Small seconds: A hand on a sub-dial which tracks seconds typically it completes a full rotation in one minute.
Tachymeter: A tachymeter watch has a function for measuring speed. It is a chronograph with a graduated dial on which speed can be read in kilometres per hour based on a 1000 metre distance.
Transparent case back: A transparent case back – frequently made of sapphire – makes it possible to see the movement inside the watch.
